The Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) Mombasa chapter has lauded Azimio la Umoja movement flag bearer Raila Odinga’s move to nominate NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua as his running mate.

Led by MYWO Mombasa coordinator Agnes Wanje Jola they described the move as a plus in the country’s political scene ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

She said the nominee slot is a prayer which has been answered by the Almighty God ahead of this year’s polls.

“We, women drawn from the coast region, are overwhelmed with joy by Raila’s nominee to be his Deputy President,” she pointed out.

Jola assured Raila they will massively campaign for his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

She was addressing journalists at Mama Ngina waterfront in reaction to the movement’s announcement during a ceremony held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.

The MYWO Mombasa chapter official told journalists they will  mobilize voters for his quest to become the fifth Head of State.

Jola said they have resolved to rally their votes for Raila to ensure he succeeds President Kenyatta’s administration.

She refuted claims women are enemies of their own and vowed to ensure the movement forms the next government.

“Let the electorate borrow a leaf from Tanzania’s Head of State Samia  Suluhu Hassan before she became the sixth and current president of her country,” she said.

The organization’s official said when the movement forms the next government women’s interests will be catered for.

Jola called upon the next government to address the usage of drugs which is a great concern.

She raised a red flag on drug addiction in the larger coast region and called on the government to talk about the menace.

“We call upon her when she forms the next government to address women’s needs,”  she pointed out.
