Mega National Tree Planting and Water Catchment Restoration Drive Held in Kinale Forest”

The Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Hon. Zachariah Njeru, EGH, led a significant tree planting initiative in Kinale, Kiambu County today. Represented by the Chair of the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), Mr. Charles Karondo, the CS expressed profound gratitude to the numerous stakeholders who participated in this vital environmental exercise.

In his statement, Mr. Karondo conveyed the Cabinet Secretary’s appreciation for the remarkable turnout, highlighting the collective effort to enhance Kenya’s forest cover. An impressive total of 120,000 tree seedlings were planted, marking a significant step towards sustainable environmental conservation.

Several key agencies participated in the exercise, including the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF), Water Resources Authority (WRA), Tana Water Works Development Agency, Northern Water Works Development Agency, and the Water Police Unit (WPU). Local community members, including students from Kinale Girls High School, Kinale Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, Crossroad Primary School, and Utugi Primary and Secondary Schools, also joined in this noble cause.

In addition to the tree planting efforts, the Athi Water Works Development Agency announced the donation of six water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 liters, to schools in the surrounding area. This initiative aims to support the schools’ water needs and enhance their capacity for water storage, contributing to the overall well-being of the students and the community.
