Mbagathi Way will be closed for 30 minutes during its renaming to Raila Odinga road after MCAs passed a motion for the renaming.
This was revealed by the mover of the motion Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok, who is also the Minority Whip in the Nairobi County Assembly.
The change of name for the 2 km stretch has been in the cards from 2005 when He served as the Minister for Roads and public works.
According to the seconder of the motion Mary Arivisa who is a nominated MCA, The renaming will also see the schools and other social amenities along the road follow suit.
“We had written to the Ministry to rename the Mbagathi Primary School to Raila Odinga primary School but it was a challenge since it was named after the road now that the road will be changed we don’t expect it to be a problem,” said Arivisa.
Among the facilities that she wants changed are Mbagathi hospital to Raila Odinga Hospital, Mbagathi Primary to Raila Odinga Primary and Mbagathi Secondary to Raila Odinga Secondary school.
