The relentless onslaught by the executive against the judiciary faces heightened resistance as legal professionals call for the impeachment of Deputy President Rugathi Gachagua.
City-based lawyer Evans Ondieki, addressing the issue at Milimani Law Court, condemned Gachagua’s remarks against High Court Judge Justice Maina as reckless and announced plans for a collective effort among lawyers to initiate an impeachment motion against the Deputy President for his perceived immature actions.
Ondieki emphasized that the legal community, especially lawyers, would take a decisive stand against what they view as Deputy President Gachagua’s inappropriate behavior.
The call for impeachment comes in response to Gachagua’s recent comments during a church service in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet, where he, alongside President William Ruto, continued his attacks on the judiciary.
Gachagua asserted his intention to file a complaint with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) against High Court Judge Justice Maina, accusing her of biased rulings in a case determining the source of funds allegedly linked to criminal activities.
