Embattled Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director is increasingly getting pinned by concerned Kenyans who are seeking his removal from office. This is after another petition from activists linked him to alleged illegal and irregular activities at the state corporation that has been on the spotlight for the past few months.

Mr Mainga is now being accused of refusing to honor his leave days as per the regulations of the Public Service Commission. The petitioner is convinced that the MD has deliberately refused to take leave as a cover up to corruption deals.

“The petitioner states that the respondent hasn’t gone for his leave days, yet he forces his junior staff to go, clearly he is has been doing suspicious things in his capacity and hence afraid to go on leave so that his can protect his suspicious activities,”

The Petitioner states such scandals raise an important question: Are the officials appointed to head public institutions there to serve the people, or are they the main impediment to our country’s progress 18.

The Petitioner states that the actions of the Respondent have caused the government to suffer loss of revenue through irregularities and legal fee.

The MD is also being accused of using his position to defraud foreign investors and in this case, investors from Qatar who were to be given public land by the MD.He claims that the MD took money from the investors but failed to deliver the agreed peace of land.

The Petitioner states that the MD and other high-ranking officials at Kenya Railways consistently assured Al Kuwari’s team that the project would proceed, only to backtrack at critical moments

“He kept the investor on a merry-go-round of delays, excuses and false assurances,”

The Petitioner states that the incident has also escalated into a diplomatic issue that could erode Kenya’s relationship with Qatar and other potential partners from the Gulf region.

He has put Kenya Railways on the spot for being among state agencies leading in bleeding taxpayers’ money. A Treasury report revealed that in the year ending June 2023, Kenya Railways recorded losses amounting to Kshs.33.5 billion, making it one of the most financially troubled state entities in Kenya.

The Petitioner states that the Respondent continued leadership is untenable,as it not only perpetuates corruption but also hampers any efforts to restore financial order within the corporation .
