With jus 16 days remaining to 6th June, organizers of the Eldoret City Marathon are working hard to ensure that they host the third edition of the Marathon amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is the marathon that has electrified Eldoret town since 2018. They say they have an elaborate plan to make the marathon a success.
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) wants to strike a balance of 42km and at the same time ensuring the theme of climate change and a success in planting 3million trees in Usain Gishu County and its neighbours.
This is the only marathon that has been confirmed in the country this year. According to LOC, the race will begin at the University and end near the Zion mall. The equipment’s in terms of electronics are already set. A total of 229 athletes had registered by Monday.
The LCD screens mounted by the county government will be scattered as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19. Andrew Chelogoi also said there will be no crowds at the finish line.
“This time, we will have no crowds at the finish line as it has always been because of the Covid-19 situation,” Chelogoi said.
