IPOA Condemns Sunday Attack that Claimed 2 Lives in Mandera

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has condemned the attack of Police officers that occurred on Sunday, September 3, 2023, in Ledhi Mandera County.

The incident which occurred at around 5am claimed the lives of two officers and injury of several
others.

The officers were on routine patrol when their vehicle run over an improvised explosive device.

“IPOA, in the strongest terms possible, condemns the actions of armed organized criminal groups that seek to threaten the peace and tranquility enjoyed by Kenyans. The Authority sends condolences to the Inspector General of Police, members of the National Police Service, the families and friends of the fallen heroes. IPOA also wishes quick restoration of health for the officers who were injured in the
attack,” IPOA Chairperson Ann Makori said in a statement.

Makori stated that they are committed to ensure Kenya attains and sustains the highest possible standards of policing, including through ensuring that all law enforcement officers are adequately cushioned while undertaking their crucial responsibility of securing the lives and property of Kenyans and residents in the country.

Preliminary reports indicate the incident was a cowardly act of terror and the Authority
believes in the determination and unparalleled capabilities of the National Police Service
to pursue and bring to justice all criminal elements who may be hellbent on bringing
instability to the country.
