Jennifer Waridi, Former Miss Tourism Lamu was on Friday nominated as the Grassroot Women Association Chairperson in lamu county by the Grassroot Women Association Kenya Chairperson.
This happened at Manda Airport Secondary School where Virtuous Women, an Organization which she is the founder and director partnered with Grassroot women Association Kenya to donate sanitary towels to girls in Manda for the next 8months.
During this period, all the student well catered for with dignitaries , under-wears and masks .
“Our main aim is to tour around the county and countrywide supporting a sustainable measure and awareness to keep our girls in school active and end period shame,”Said Waridi.
They also requested groups and organization that can offers or donate sanitary towels to schools to embrace another initiative given the location of schools where the students can actively participate in to raise funds to cater for their dignitaries as we end period shame together.
“In Manda Airport secondary and all other schools our priority is an initiative called Lamu Go green where we create awareness to plant and take care of trees with an aim of planting 10,000 trees per year in schools , churches and all private and government institutions where those trees can well be taken care of.” She added.
This is a good initiative considering many girls drop out of school the moment they start having their menses.
