Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed had disbanded Football Kenya Federation and appointed a caretaker committee to run football.

The 15-member committee, which has a six-month mandate, will be chaired by retired Justice Aaron Ringera with former football administrators Titus Kasuve and Hassan Haji as members.

Former footballers Dr. JJ Masiga and Bob Oyugu are also in the commitee that also comprises former administrators Hassan Haji and Titus Kasuve.Other members of the committee are General Retired Moses Oyugi, Fatma Adan, Philip Musyimi, Anthony Isayi, Elisha Kiplagat and Hassan Haji.

The committee, which has a six-month mandate, will be chaired by retired Justice Aaron Ringera. The CS, who had on Thursday morning received the audit report on FKF from Sports Registrar Rose Wasike, acted swiftly, naming the caretaker committee.

In her statement, the minister said: “Over the past few years, the Football Kenya Federation has faced several governance issues that have been of great concern to the Ministry.

First, the Football Kenya Federation has failed to account for all the monies allocated to it by the Government.“All beneficiaries of the Fund are as a matter of course trained on how to apply, utilize and account for the funds.

The beneficiaries are also aware that they are required to fully disclose any financial assistance received from other sponsors. Football Kenya Federation has fallen short of this requirement.”

The CS said that after 16 days in which the audit team went through the federation books of accounts, a report by the registrar of Audit in the the ministry recommended tough action on the federation officials.

One of the main recommendations is that the criminal investigation agencies among them DCI, NIS and EACC carry out furtherinvestigation to establish the extent to whichthe misappropriation of funds in FKF may haveoccurred with a view of prosecuting those whomay be found culpable.

The CS also recommended that the current officials of FKF be removed fromoffice to pave way for further investigations pending conclusion.

The government has also stated that: “A special audit of the books of accounts of FKF be carried out and subsequent frequent future audits.

“No bank account should be opened by FKFhenceforth unless authorized by the PrincipalSecretary within the six-month period thecaretaker committee will be in place.

”The statement from Amina Mohammed also stated that the Ministry of Sports culture and Heritage andthe Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund will not to release any funds to FKF unless anduntil the previous funds are fully accounted for.

The latest move adds another nail in Nick Mwendwa’s torrid management of Kenyan football that has seen sponsors walk away since he took over five years ago.

Mwendwa who has been leading the federation is accused by the auditor general of diverting Sh 11 million of the cash fowarded to the federation.

From the government for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to his personal account.

The action has been taken after weeks of tugging and pulling.
