Indian Delegates Advocates for Paid Period Leave at UN Civil Society Conference 2024

The United Nations Civil Society Conference (UN CSC 2024), held on May 9-10 at the UN Office in Nairobi, provided a significant platform for discussions on various social issues. Among the notable participants was Ms. Ranjeeta Priyadarshini from Odisha, India, who presented her campaign advocating for “Paid Period Leave” (PPL).

During the conference, Ms. Priyadarshini passionately highlighted the importance of PPL, explaining how it differs from general sick leave and its critical role in achieving workplace equity. She argued that recognizing menstrual health through dedicated leave policies is essential for promoting gender equality and supporting women in the workforce.

Ms. Priyadarshini’s campaign garnered significant attention and support. She had the opportunity to meet and present her letter of support for the PPL campaign to several high-profile officials and delegates, including:

She also acknowledged Dr. Ekrah Ndungu, the first person in Kenya to implement PPL, for her pioneering efforts.
