Nyeri gubernatorial candidate billionaire Thuo Mathenge on the New Democrats party (TND) has announced plans to establish a special kitty to fund small-scale enterprises for women in the county if elected.

The beneficiaries would not be paying interest for the money borrowed.

Thuo Mathenge said that the kitty, once rolled out, would spur interest in business among rural and urban women and youth.

He said needs to be put on a solid economic recovery track.

“We must be deliberate on policies and economic programs that can boost the growth of medium and small-scale trading opportunities among our people. This is what my government is going to be all about,” he said.

Also to secure loans from the kitty are Boda Boda operators doing business within the county.

“The revolving fund would not only provide youth with capital to start businesses such as Boda Boda but will further provide unemployed graduates with money to cushion them from the vagaries of life through small-scale businesses.”

The governor hopeful reiterated his commitment to ensuring residents get piped water in their homes.

“I am going to ensure we scale up funding to the kitty and make it efficient so that our young people can get a chance at education,” he said.

Thuo Mathenge made headlines after he established a Multibillion poultry hatchery and business in the area under the name Bradegate industries that mushroomed so fast.

He would later establish a Multibillion Five Star Hotel along the busy Nanyuki-Nairobi highway where he acquired a chopper to ferry people to the hotel.

Under the Brade Gate brand name, he owns a college, a resort, a wheat mill and bakery, chicken and chips outlets in five major towns, and a chicken slaughterhouse that can handle 20,000 birds a day, among other investments.

Nyeri governor aspirant Thuo Mathenge a few months ago unveiled Esther Maina as his running mate in the August 9 race.

Thuo or Wanguku, as he is popularly known, described his deputy as a tried and tested consummate professional with a deep understanding and awareness of the political landscape in Nyeri County.

He said the county deserves someone who has its interests at heart and who will transform it by creating jobs for the youth.

He is expected to face off with Senator Ephraim Maina (Jubilee), Peter Munyiri (CCK), incumbent Mutahi Kahiga (UDA), and Gachara Kamanga (Independent).
